About The Position

The Critical Care Unit at Lexington Medical Center is a 16-bed unit that provides both Intensive and Intermediate Care. A dedicated charge nurse supports the unit without a patient assignment. The unit is equipped to monitor and trend heart rhythms and other hemodynamic pressures. Patients receive care for conditions such as sepsis, shock, respiratory failure, DKA, HHS, electrolyte abnormalities, COPD, CHF, pulmonary edema, cardiac dysrhythmias, stroke, post-surgical unstable patients, hypertensive emergency requiring IV drips, overdose, and ETOH detox. As a skilled and compassionate RN, you will play a pivotal role in providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the nursing process to deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures. This role involves using evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion, and skilled communication while leading efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience across the continuum. Lexington Medical Center, part of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Health, is a 94-bed hospital in Lexington, NC, offering advanced services in orthopaedics, general surgery, ENT, stroke, and cancer care, along with outpatient expertise in digestive health, rehabilitation, diagnostic imaging, and wound care.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association prior to employment
  • Greater than 1 year of RN experience

Responsibilities

  • Providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the nursing process
  • Delivering safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures
  • Using evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion, and skilled communication
  • Leading efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience across the continuum
  • Monitoring and trending heart rhythms and other hemodynamic pressures
  • Caring for patients on ventilators, noninvasive ventilation with BiPAP or CPAP, and heated high flow oxygen delivery
  • Titrating medication IV drips to ordered parameters
  • Following protocols and order sets
