About The Position

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) for a 12-week travel assignment in a correctional facility in Hartsville, TN. The RN will plan, coordinate, and deliver comprehensive nursing care to inmates/residents in accordance with established medical, facility, and correctional policies. Duties include executing Licensed Independent Provider (LIP) orders, administering medications, assisting with medical examinations and treatments, and performing emergency procedures when necessary. The RN will apply sound clinical judgment, maintain security and confidentiality at all times, and ensure compliance with correctional healthcare standards and regulations.

Requirements

  • Active RN license in Tennessee or a compact state.
  • Graduate from an accredited college, university, or nursing program with a degree/diploma in nursing.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of professional nursing experience preferred (correctional or acute-care setting a plus).
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications (additional facility-required certifications as applicable).
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and recent tuberculosis test.
  • Strong clinical assessment, decision-making, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to maintain composure in high-stress situations and uphold professional conduct within a secure facility.
  • Knowledge of correctional healthcare procedures and commitment to patient safety and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care and carry out Licensed Independent Provider orders within the scope of nursing practice.
  • Dispense and administer medications and treatments accurately, documenting per facility protocols.
  • Attend physician sick calls; prepare examining rooms, medical equipment, and inmate/resident lists.
  • Assess and triage inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries; provide emergency care and coordinate referrals to higher-level medical facilities when necessary.
  • Operate pill call, maintain accurate medication records, and ensure compliance with all pharmacy laws and facility policies.
  • Supervise and monitor care provided by LPN/LVN and non-licensed medical staff.
  • Observe and document inmate/resident behavior, reporting any significant changes promptly.
  • Maintain security of medical supplies, equipment, and records, preventing potential contraband risks.
  • Support the Health Service Administrator (HSA) by reviewing medical files, preparing reports, and ensuring all services are properly documented.
  • Collaborate with facility staff, contract providers, and external healthcare agencies to coordinate medical services.
  • Participate in health counseling and education programs for inmates/residents individually or in groups.
  • Conduct audits to ensure compliance with facility formulary, NCCHC, ACA, and JCAHO accreditation standards.
  • Maintain professional relationships with correctional staff while adhering to corporate and facility safety procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of incident, safety, and accident reports, taking prompt action in emergencies or unusual situations.
