About The Position

ATC Healthcare is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a travel contract in Hartsville, Tennessee, providing comprehensive nursing care in a correctional facility setting. The RN will be responsible for assessing, planning, and delivering healthcare to inmates and residents while maintaining safety, compliance, and professional standards. The role involves performing routine and emergency medical procedures, administering medications, assisting with physician rounds, and maintaining accurate medical records. The ideal candidate demonstrates sound clinical judgment, adaptability, and the ability to perform effectively in a secure and structured environment.

Requirements

  • Active Tennessee RN license or Compact State RN license (required).
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (BSN preferred).
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional nursing experience (correctional or acute care setting preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license (required).
  • Certifications: BLS (required).
  • Strong assessment, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations in a secure and structured environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to facility scheduling needs.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and recent tuberculosis test required.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver nursing care and treatment in compliance with physician orders and correctional healthcare protocols.
  • Administer medications and treatments, maintain accurate records, and ensure adherence to all facility and legal regulations.
  • Assist in examinations, treatments, and emergency procedures as directed by a Licensed Independent Provider.
  • Perform inmate/resident assessments for illnesses or injuries and determine the appropriate course of action.
  • Supervise and guide LPN/LVN and unlicensed staff, ensuring compliance with care standards.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all medical records and sensitive information.
  • Conduct medication administration (pill call), wound care, and triage duties.
  • Monitor hospitalized inmates for early release opportunities when appropriate.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the medical unit to prevent contraband and ensure safety.
  • Provide health education and counseling on an individual or group basis.
  • Collaborate with the Health Services Administrator and other medical staff to maintain quality patient care and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare and maintain required reports, logs, and documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Support NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO accreditation by maintaining approved standards of care and documentation.
