About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) for the Short Stay Unit at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center will carry out observation of care, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care and according to policy and procedures. The Short Stay Unit nurse will utilize a team-based nursing approach to serve patients from every specialty who do not meet inpatient criteria for admission. The Short Stay Unit is a team-focused unit that strives to create a friendly and supportive environment. The unit provides opportunities to gain additional education and certifications, including ACLS, PALS, and CCNRP. The Short Stay Unit has been newly renovated and has access to updated resources, equipment, and technology.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
Associate’s degree is required.
Licensure in the State of Ohio as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN)
ACLS and BLS (may receive after hire)
A strategic, adaptable, growth-oriented, and team-focused personality

Responsibilities

Prepares, implements, evaluates, revises and coordinates interdisciplinary plan of care for each assigned patient in a collaborative effort with the other healthcare team members and patient/family within the time frame indicated by unit's standards of practice.
Communicates formulated plan of care, as appropriate, to all levels of associates involved in the patient's care and demonstrates ability to establish priorities of care based on patient's assessment and needs.
Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment, and involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient.
Identifies and responds appropriately to different patient needs resulting from behavioral health problems, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms.
Demonstrates critical thinking, accountability, flexibility, and a cooperative attitude in meeting the needs of the unit.
Nursing process is accurately and concisely documented, including evaluation of treatment and in accordance to hospital policy and procedure.
Acts as a resource person and mentor for new personnel, floater, and/or supplemental staff working on the unit.
Assumes responsibility for personal professional development and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others.
