About The Position

Cardiovascular ICU Registered Nurse (RN) in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This role is for an experienced ICU RN with open-heart recovery experience looking for a 13-week contract assignment. The position involves delivering critical care nursing services to medically complex and critically ill patients in a high-acuity ICU setting. The nurse will continuously assess patient condition, monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs, and promptly respond to changes or emergencies. Responsibilities include administering IV medications, vasopressors, sedation, blood products, and other advanced therapies, as well as operating and monitoring specialized equipment like ventilators and cardiac monitors. Collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop care plans is essential. Accurate electronic documentation, adherence to infection control and safety standards, and providing patient and family support are also key duties. The role requires participation in continuing education and maintaining compliance.

Requirements

  • Active RN or Compact license within the state of Indiana
  • Active Certifications Required: BLS & ACLS through the American Heart Association
  • 2 years of recent and related Cardiac ICU experience, as required by the facility
  • Experience with open heart surgery recovery.
  • Must be able to work independently, yet together as part of a team
  • Must be able to remain calm under pressure
  • Active BLS, physical, TB test, and other medical compliance as required by the facility

Responsibilities

  • Deliver critical care nursing services to medically complex and critically ill patients in a high-acuity ICU setting during a 13-week contract assignment.
  • Continuously assess patient condition, monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs, and promptly respond to changes in patient status or emergencies.
  • Administer IV medications, vasopressors, sedation, blood products, and other advanced therapies in accordance with physician orders and ICU protocols.
  • Operate and monitor specialized equipment, including ventilators, cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, and life-support systems.
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Maintain accurate electronic documentation, ensure compliance with infection control and safety standards, and provide compassionate support to patients and families during critical situations.
  • Arrive on time for scheduled shifts.
  • Participate in continuing education and maintain documentation to remain in compliance.
