About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in Cardiopulmonary Rehab is responsible for collecting appropriate data for evaluation, developing and modifying treatment plans, recognizing patient progress, and documenting information according to guidelines. This role also involves developing educational programs, conducting individual or group sessions, and communicating with physicians. The nurse must demonstrate knowledge of age-specific care and principles of growth and development.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing.
  • Typically requires 2 years of experience in Nursing.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, set appropriate priorities and accomplish assignments in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Proficient computer skills including experience using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and squat on a daily basis.
  • May be exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards as well as blood and body fluids, therefore, protective clothing (i.e., gloves) must be worn as necessary.
  • Generally exposed to a normal office environment.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.

Responsibilities

  • Collects appropriate data specific to diagnosis for evaluation purposes.
  • Develops treatment plans that reflect judgement and skill application commensurate with patient's health and age-specific status.
  • Modifies exercise prescription due to changes in medications, environmental conditions or medical status.
  • Recognizes a patient's lack of progress and consults with colleagues, physician or other disciplines for treatment ideas in a timely manner.
  • Documents information completely and according to insurance and department guidelines.
  • Develops programs to educate customers and market services.
  • Offers educational information that meets individual or group needs and desired outcomes.
  • Conducts individual or group sessions in a knowledgeable, professional manner.
  • Provides appropriate written handouts to patients and records education provided in chart.
  • Communicates with physicians: clarifies unclear orders, seeks orders on appropriate patients, provides progress reports, etc.
  • Performs stress testing and wound inspections and reports to physician in a timely manner.
  • Obtains orders from physician for treatment of angina, changes in medication and administering oral medication.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
