Provides and coordinates advanced nursing care in a non-acute specialty ambulatory, medical office, clinic or urgent care setting in accordance with the State Board of Nursing, Nurse Practice Act, professional standards of care, state regulations, accreditation standards and Prisma Health’s philosophy, policies and procedures. This role focuses on targeted, complex, advanced care and performs specialized procedures or treatments and administers prescribed medications. It utilizes unique knowledge, skills, and competencies required in ambulatory care nursing practice to promote wellness, restore health, and address health-related situational problems. The nurse assesses patients’ needs and applies advanced ambulatory care nursing knowledge and evidence-based nursing practice when developing an individualized plan of care for each patient. This includes coordinating and documenting patient care, patient assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and patient safety. The role also involves delegating tasks, adhering to infection control and safety protocols, and communicating appropriately with healthcare team members. Patient and family education is integrated throughout the delivery of care to enable informed health-related decisions. The nurse provides a compassionate and therapeutic environment, serves as a role model, and participates in educating and mentoring other members of the care team. Additionally, the role requires attending department and organization meetings, completing compliance training, practicing safe and efficient use of resources, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and assuming responsibility for professional development and continuing education. May serve as a preceptor, unit champion, or participate in shared governance.
