About The Position

This role is for a Registered Nurse (RN) in an Ambulatory Pre/Post-Op setting, working day shifts. The position is at a brand new ambulatory surgery center located in the VCU Short Pump Pavilion, offering Monday-Friday day shift hours with no holidays, weekends, or call requirements. The Ambulatory Surgery Center provides outpatient surgical services that do not necessitate an overnight hospital stay. Specialties include Orthopedics, Urology, Plastics, Gynecology, Surgical Oncology, Colon and Rectal, and Ear, Nose, and Throat. Patients benefit from the latest techniques, including minimally invasive, diagnostic, and preventative procedures, allowing for safe and comfortable recovery at home. The Clinical Nurse I job integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet patient and family needs, assists the healthcare team with illness/injury prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort provision. This role provides direction, education, and begins to develop leadership skills at the unit level. It involves delivering and documenting direct, age-specific care based on medical orders and a multidisciplinary plan, and safely administering medications while identifying incompatibilities/interactions. The Clinical Nurse II job demonstrates mastery of clinical skills and applies this knowledge to a specific patient population. It assists the healthcare team with illness/injury prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort provision. This role recognizes and intervenes in changing patient situations, mobilizes resources for individualized patient/family needs, provides direction, education, and assumes leadership responsibilities at the unit level. It involves delivering and documenting direct, age-specific care based on medical orders and a multidisciplinary plan, and safely administering medications while identifying incompatibilities/interactions. The Clinical Nurse III job demonstrates clinical knowledge at the unit level and applies this knowledge to a specific patient population. It assists the healthcare team with illness/injury prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort provision. This role anticipates and intervenes in changing patient situations, provides direction, education, and serves as a role model in a clinical setting. It involves delivering and documenting direct, age-specific care based on medical orders and a multidisciplinary plan, and safely administering medications while identifying incompatibilities/interactions.

Requirements

  • Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state
  • Current RN licensure in Virginia, AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
  • N/A (for Clin I)
  • 12 to 24 months RN experience (for Clin II)
  • 3 years of clinical experience (for Clin III)
  • Diploma or Associates Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the corresponding state’s Board of Nursing.
  • All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date unless grandfathered under previous requirements.
  • Follows documented physician/licensed independent provider orders.
  • Practices within the boundaries of the regulations governing the practice of nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Practice is guided by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing and established national nursing practice standards.
  • All practice is guided by and follows the VCUHS policies and procedures and established practice.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant or care partner in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice (for Clin I)
  • Academic Health Care Experience; Experience with similar patient population in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice (for Clin II, Clin III)
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program (for Clin I, Clin II, Clin III)
  • Certification in specialty area (for Clin III)

  • Mobilizes resources to meet the individualized needs of patient/families.
  • Assumes leadership responsibilities at the unit level.

  • Serves as a role model in a clinical setting.
  • Organizes work and delegates and supervises others (RN's, LPN's, Care Partners, Unit Secretaries, etc) in carrying out assignments.
