Registered Nurse Resource Specialist - Sterile Processing - RN

This specific role supports surgical and procedural clinical practices, as well as sterile processing and high-level disinfection operations throughout Southwest Wisconsin. The RN Resource Specialist partners with local and regional Nursing leadership to coordinate on-site evaluations of policies, procedures, and practices, focusing on areas such as surgical and procedural nursing, pre/post care, and instrumentation/equipment. For Surgical Services, this includes sterile processing and high-level disinfection of operating/procedural room equipment and instrumentation. The role involves developing and maintaining relationships, supporting practice and policy procedures, evaluating quality assurance programs against industry standards, providing summarized audit reports, and developing recommendations. The specialist will also assist in training, analyzing work processes, implementing changes, and providing information for leadership decision-making. Additionally, this role contributes to developing strategies for electronic medical record modifications related to nursing practice and education. Some employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship, and holders of F1 status eligible for post-completion OPT are welcome to apply, though it is not eligible for the F-1 STEM OPT extension program. Successful sponsorship requires state licensure and completion of VisaScreen or equivalent certification.
Requirements
- Graduate of a nursing program.
- All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020 and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of a baccalaureate degree in nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.
- All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date prior to April 1, 2020 must provide documented evidence of program completion of a baccalaureate degree in nursing program as stipulated by the degree requirement program in place at time of hire.
- Arizona campuses: A Baccalaureate degree in Nursing with four (4) years of Operating Room experience is required.
- Strong decision-making and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge and experience with research processes.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
- For Surgical Services, RN Resource Specialists focused on instrument reprocessing and sterilization: Sterilization Certification through HSPA preferred and must acquire within 18 months of start date.
- Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
Nice To Haves
- At least one year of Surgical Services experience preferred.
- Operating room or procedural based RN experience preferred.
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred.
- Associate degree with five years' practice specific experience preferred or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from ACEN or CCNE accredited program with 2 years of practice specific experience preferred.
- At least 1 year of formal or informal leadership experience, including involvement in committees preferred.
- At least 1 year of experience in quality improvement initiatives, including report preparation and formulating recommendations preferred.
- Program management or project coordination experience.
Responsibilities
- Support surgical and procedural clinical practices, as well as sterile processing and high-level disinfection operations.
- Partner with local and regional Nursing leadership to coordinate on-site evaluation of policies, procedures, and practices.
- Provide oversight for surgical and procedural nursing practices, pre/post care, and instrumentation and equipment.
- Oversee sterile processing and high-level disinfection processes of operating/procedural room equipment and instrumentation.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with individuals throughout the institution.
- Provide support to practice and policy procedures and associated documentation.
- Evaluate quality assurance programs established by Mayo Clinic and regulatory agencies.
- Collaborate in auditing current processes against industry standards.
- Provide summarized reporting of audit results.
- Develop recommendations based on audit results.
- Assist in training and providing analysis of work processes.
- Implement changes to improve outcomes and service.
- Provide meaningful information to local and regional Nursing leadership for decision-making.
- Assist in developing strategies for introducing, evaluating, or modifying the electronic medical record applied to nursing practice and education.
- Drive personal vehicle as part of role responsibilities (for a subset of employees).
