About The Position

Nemours is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse Resident for our 5 West Hematology/Oncology/Transplant and Cellular Therapy Unit in Wilmington, DE. This step-down unit provides inpatient care for pediatric patients requiring services from Hematology/ Oncology, Transplant and Cellular Therapy, and Endocrine subspecialties. Admitting diagnoses include but are not limited to leukemia, lymphoma, brain tumors, neuroblastomas, solid organ malignancies, sickle cell disease, bleeding disorders, diabetes, and other types of genetic and immune disorders. In addition, stem cell and bone marrow donors are cared for on this unit. The type of patient care provided in this area is complex due to patient diagnosis, the intensity of therapy, the criticality of patient condition, and the extensive patient/family issues that necessitate nursing intervention. 5 West nurses are responsible for coordinating patient care as part of an inter-professional team. Nurses are required to be competent in the care of the newly diagnosed endocrine patient, and hematology, oncology, pre-, peri-, and post- transplant and cellular therapy patient including the administration of chemotherapy and biotherapy. Competency is established and maintained through an internal educational process.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Eligible for Delaware State license (or compact license).
  • Current AHA Healthcare Provider (HCP) Certification.
  • Successfully complete and maintain the National APHON (Association of Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurses) Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Course.
  • Successfully complete and maintain the APHON BBMT (Blood & Bone Marrow Transplant) Core Curriculum.
  • Successfully complete and maintain Hematology and Oncology 101.
  • Obtain PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification within one (1) year of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN is preferred.
  • PALS optional but required to obtain within a year of hire.
  • Nurses are strongly encouraged to maintain or achieve their specialty certification: CPON (Certified Pediatric Oncology Nurse), or CPHON (Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse).

Responsibilities
