About The Position

The Nurse Resident is a Registered Nurse who serves as a leader of the healthcare team at UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper. The RN resident establishes an authentic, personalized relationship with patients and their chosen support systems, and collaborates with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care that promote optimal health or support a peaceful death. The RN resident uses scientific evidence and compassion to help patients navigate their health journeys and is accountable for managing and providing care in accordance with current policies and procedures. The role is full time on days, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with rotating weekends. It may include on-call responsibilities as directed and travel between campus buildings, remote facilities, and out of town as needed. The position is eligible for a $7,500 sign-on bonus. The base compensation range is $35.67–$61.43 hourly; individual compensation depends on qualifications, work experience, and/or education. The pay range excludes applicable incentive programs such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, and other incentives for eligible positions.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Successful completion of the NCLEX.
Current RN licensure in the applicable state.
Willingness to learn.
Excellent customer service, verbal and non-verbal communication, interpersonal relationship, conflict resolution, critical thinking, and information technology skills.
Ability to meet the stated physical demands: constant standing; frequent walking and bending/stooping; proficient communication, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail and legible writing; and ability to lift, push, or pull 100 pounds. Safe Handling Equipment must be used for any weight over 35 pounds.

Responsibilities

Establish personalized relationships with patients and their chosen support systems.
Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care.
Use scientific evidence and compassion to support patients through their health journeys.
Manage and provide care in accordance with current policies and procedures.
Advocate for patients while implementing interdisciplinary plans of care.
Educate patients and their support systems in collaboration with the healthcare team.
Analyze, modify, and implement strategies to progress patients through their plans of care.
Ensure completion of nursing interventions, medical orders, and related therapies.
Prioritize duties according to patient needs and changing acuity levels.
Use appropriate communication tools for interdisciplinary communication and handoffs, including SBARQ; communicate care plans and document information in a timely manner.
Develop positive relationships with team members and internal customers; mentor, precept, orient, and provide feedback to team members.
Resolve conflicts independently as appropriate, accept responsibility for actions, and respond positively to feedback.
Provide routine nursing care, including starting IVs and performing dressing changes, and operate equipment such as portable cardiac monitors and bedside commodes.
Assist in critical situations, including administering CPR.
Administer and evaluate medication therapies; perform patient transfers and transport patients by wheelchair, hospital bed, or stretcher to other departments.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Use safety equipment such as a HEPA mask when required for infection prevention.
Travel between campus buildings, remote facilities, and out of town as needed; fulfill on-call responsibilities as directed.
