Requirements

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service.
  • Ability to work as a member in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to apply decision making and analytical skills.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to role model conflict resolution strategies.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop individualized care plans
  • Supervise care staff
  • Collaborate with physicians and families
  • Provides safe and respectful nursing care to assigned patients/residents in accordance with policies, individualized care plans, and care priorities.
  • Performs comprehensive assessments, monitors for abnormal signs or lab results, and collaborates with RN/RPN and interdisciplinary team for complex cases.
  • Communicates and implements physician orders, including transcribing and processing them accurately.
  • Documents all care activities such as assessments, treatments, medication administration, and discharge planning in manual or electronic records.
  • Prepares and assists with surgical/diagnostic procedures, transfers, and admissions, ensuring coordination with physicians and care team members.
  • Administers medications (excluding IV), monitors effects, and maintains communication with RN/RPN and team as needed.
  • Participates in education, incident response, orientation, and care planning while promoting patient/family involvement and supporting discharge planning
