This position utilizes the nursing process and is responsible for providing for immediate and long-term nursing care needs of patients within the standards of the department, hospital, and regulatory agencies. The Bipolar & Psychotic Inpatient Unit (AB2) is an inpatient unit for those with bipolar and psychotic illness, specializing in first-break cases. Our focus is symptom management and safety, ensuring a therapeutic environment to promote stabilization.

Requirements

Registered Nurse [RN - State License] required
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
Ability to utilize the nursing process
Ability to work collaboratively

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred
One year medical/psychiatric experience preferred

Responsibilities

Accurately assesses patients’ needs, utilizing multiple data sources to determine actual/potential health problems and functional status.
Utilizes the Recovery Oriented Framework to identify patient strengths.
Performs point of care testing.
Communicates findings effectively to members of the healthcare team.
Documentation reflects response to intervention and demonstrates an understanding of patients’ response to treatment interventions.
Identifies patient behaviors that contribute to the development of a crisis; utilizes non-verbal and verbal techniques to de-escalate a crisis situation.
Accurately plans nursing interventions for assigned patients.
Modifies and individualizes the Nursing Plan of Care and protocols.
Participates in the development of the multidisciplinary treatment plan.
Demonstrates ability to prioritize patient care needs.
Partners with patients/families to support recovery goals.
Provides and implements nursing care interventions.
Establishes a therapeutic alliance with assigned patients.
Demonstrates safe, accurate, and timely medication administration using BMV scanning.
Reviews physician orders in a timely manner.
Promotes interventions that provide the least-restrictive alternatives and recovery-oriented goals.
Participates in leading patient groups.
Accurately evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care interventions.
Communicates patients’ clinical status at clinical team rounds and change of shift reports.
Utilizes evidence-based nursing knowledge to guide practice decisions.
Provides a leadership role in organizing and providing patient care.
Provides direction and supervision of MHSs.
Delegates care interventions.
Assumes a leadership role in medical and psychiatric emergencies.
Promotes/provides for critical incident de-briefing following emergency events.
Anticipates acute milieu problems and delegates staff appropriately.
Participates in the training and education of RNs, MHSs, and other healthcare providers.
Provides for teaching needs of patient and significant others.
Provides health teaching related to patient needs and recovery goals.
Documents teaching in the patient’s record.
Informs treatment team of patients and significant others’ learning needs.
Completes mandatory in-service requirements.
Maintains competency for treating patient population.
Seeks constructive feedback regarding work performance from peers and professional colleagues.
