About The Position

This role involves providing direct patient care in a psychiatric/behavioral health setting. The Registered Nurse will administer medications, evaluate care plans, conduct assessments, and manage patient documentation. Responsibilities include performing admission screens, wound care, EKGs, and utilizing glucometers. The nurse will also handle telephone and verbal orders, acknowledge orders, take vital signs, conduct suicide risk screenings, provide end-of-shift reports, log patient belongings, and participate in discharge planning. A key aspect of the role includes managing agitated patients through de-escalation techniques and, when necessary, physical restraint and takedown procedures.

Requirements

  • South Dakota or compact RN License
  • Minimum 1 year of experience
  • BLS certification
  • Ability to perform a takedown and physical restraint on an agitated patient if necessary
  • Proficiency in verbal de-escalation
  • Experience with group didactic skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Experience with Team Nursing approach
  • Ability to administer own medications (injectable and PO)
  • Ability to evaluate care plans and note progress
  • Ability to perform admission screens
  • Ability to perform assessments
  • Ability to perform minor wound care
  • Ability to perform EKGs
  • Ability to use a glucometer
  • Ability to take telephone or verbal orders
