About The Position

Plans and implements professional nursing care for patients in accordance with hospital policies. Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned. The 6VP unit is a Progressive Adult ICU unit with 48 beds, treating acute Adult and Geriatric patients. The nurse to patient ratio is typically 1:4 but may vary. The Care team consists of Registered Nurses, a Clinical Educator, Nursing Assistants, Unit Secretary, Resource Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Case Managers, Physical Therapists, Dieticians and Occupational and Speech Therapists.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Nursing required
  • Current licensure in North Carolina as a Registered Nurse or Compact state licensure
  • Telemetry Monitoring
  • Respiratory Treatments (Bipap/Cpap/High Flow)
  • Chest tubes/Tracheostomies
  • Administer Critical Drips
  • Diabetic Ketoacidosis
  • Acute Renal Failure
  • Sepsis
  • Post Surgical/Trauma
  • Post Cerebrovascular Accident
  • Pre and Post Cardiac Cath Procedures
  • Post Myocardial Infarction
  • Cardiac Dysrhythmia Requiring Drug Therapy
  • Pre and Post Angioplasty and Stent Placement
  • Pre and Post AICD/Pacemaker placement
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills
  • Verbal and written skills required
  • Demonstrates effective organizational and leadership skills
  • Has knowledge of the age-specific physiological and psychosocial, developmental and spiritual needs of the patients typically served
  • Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needs
  • Visual acuity for observation of patients
  • Much standing, walking, bending, and lifting
  • May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds
  • BLS - American Heart Association
