Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. This role focuses on increasing the quality of care and quality of life for the patient, family, and significant other(s) by systematically evaluating the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. The nurse establishes effective relationships and serves as an advocate, developing care plans unique to patient needs. They utilize the nursing process to assess patients, determine appropriate nursing diagnoses, identify expected outcomes, plan care, implement interventions, and evaluate results. The role requires developing assessment and management strategies considering various dimensions of human responses to health problems and demonstrating knowledge of the impact of illness on these dimensions. Leadership skills are utilized through collaboration with patients, families, and inter-professional teams in care planning and evaluation. Effective communication is essential for collaborative decision-making that is culturally sensitive, ethical, legal, holistic, informed, compassionate, and humane, within economic boundaries. The nurse educates patients and families on health promotion, maintenance, and comfort measures. They also foster a healthy work environment by serving as a mentor and role model. Application of evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge is crucial, ensuring age-specific and clinical needs are met. The position requires a constant state of alertness and safe practice, with the possibility of performing point-of-care testing. Other duties as assigned.
