About The Position

South Sound Behavioral Hospital is seeking a motivated, dependable, and dedicated Registered Nurse Program Director (RN) to join their team. This role ensures the coordinated delivery of patient care in accordance with established standards of care, mental health practice, and hospital policy. The Program Director will assist in contributing to the hospital’s philosophy, objectives, educational, and Performance & Improvement efforts, while providing supervision to the nursing staff. This position also functions as the primary auditor for new admissions, working with the CNO and nursing staff to ensure the completion, timeliness, and accuracy of nursing charting. The RN Program Director will actively engage in the healthcare team, offering direct and indirect care to patients, families, and legal guardians, and ensuring staff deliver care in accordance with the Standards of Care and Practice. They will continuously assess patients' physical and psychological conditions, utilize the nursing process, and uphold a safe therapeutic environment. Collaboration with the multidisciplinary treatment team is key, contributing to tailored goals and interventions. The role includes leading auditing and performance improvement measures related to auditing and charting, monitoring medical records, educating staff on documentation standards, and ensuring unit compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, state, and regulatory standards. The Program Director will also monitor compliance with unit/group schedules, track group attendance, participate in performance improvement activities, and collaborate with case management for timely, quality care. Assisting with recruitment and interviewing is also part of the responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited program of professional nursing required.
  • Able to produce a valid Washington State RN license.
  • At least three years’ experience in a psychiatric healthcare facility.
  • Demonstrate exceptional crisis management and time management skills.
  • Showcase flexibility and creativity with a proven ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Exhibit a calm, organized, and professional demeanor even in stressful situations.

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring coordinated delivery of patient care in accordance with the established standards of care, mental health practice and hospital policy, goals and objectives.
  • Assisting in contributing to the hospital’s philosophy, objectives, educational and Performance & Improvement efforts.
  • Providing supervision to the nursing staff assigned to his/her units.
  • Functioning as the primary auditor for all new admissions and working with CNO and nursing staff to ensure completion, timeliness and accuracy of nursing charting.
  • Actively engaging in the health care team, offering direct and indirect care to patients, families, and legal guardians.
  • Ensuring that all staff members deliver care in accordance with the Standards of Care and Practice.
  • Assessing patients' physical and psychological conditions continuously throughout their care journey.
  • Utilizing the nursing process in alignment with the philosophy, objectives, values, mission, and core principles of SSBH.

  • Collaborating as an integral member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, actively contributing to the development, implementation, and documentation of tailored goals and interventions based on patient strengths and psychiatric challenges.
  • Leading auditing and performance improvement measures as related to auditing and charting.
  • Monitoring medical records for appropriate documentation of care and effectiveness and assuring completion of Night Audit deficiencies.
  • Educating staff on standards of documentation.
  • Responsible for unit compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, state and regulatory standards and patient rights standards.
  • Monitoring compliance with unit/group schedules.
  • Tracking group attendance and alternatives provided.
  • Participating in performance improvement activities and is responsible for the effectiveness of the unit quality improvement program.
  • Collaborating with case management to ensure patients receive timely quality care.
  • Assisting with recruitment and interviewing potential staff.
