About The Position

An integral member of the Health Care Team responsible for giving and directing care to the residents. This position may be required to perform a combination of supportive functions based upon the requirements of the organization. The role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating total care for residents, giving direct total care, and teaching residents to reach their maximum attainable state of well-being. The nurse performs and records therapeutic measures, makes rounds with physicians, and continuously evaluates resident symptoms, reactions, and progress. The position also involves participating in departmental activities, applying nursing theory and practice, and organizing and supervising nursing care plans. The nurse contributes to clinical nursing records, directs data entry into charts, and stimulates independence in thinking and decision-making. Recognition of the need for consultation and initiation of requests to the Nurse Manager is also part of the role. The nurse evaluates the nursing care given by other nursing personnel, renders assistance to those engaged in nursing research, and assists in the educational program of students. All staff are required to follow safety regulations, maintain a clean and safe department, report hazardous conditions and accidents, and wear protective clothing when necessary. Staff are also required to participate in O’odham Centered Care and assist in the orientation of new personnel. Recognizing the role as part of QAPI efforts, attending trainings, carrying out QAPI roles, following policies, sharing ideas for improvement, communicating outcomes and barriers, and supporting QAPI initiatives are also essential. Regular attendance and adherence to facility rules and regulations are mandatory. Employees may be required to work varying schedules and attend all scheduled training sessions and meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Nursing from a four-year college or university; or Associate of Sciences (AS) degree in Nursing plus one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current RN license in the State of Arizona. Must be active and in good standing.
  • CPR certification.
  • All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance.
  • Must be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates total care for the residents.
  • Gives direct total care to residents according to the residents’ needs and/or assigns these functions to appropriate personnel.
  • Teaches and assists residents to reach their maximum attainable state of well-being.
  • Performs and records therapeutic measures prescribed and delegated by medical authority, i.e. medications and treatment.
  • Makes rounds with physicians and assists as needed.
  • Continuously evaluates symptoms, reactions and progress of residents and observes, records and reports to appropriate person.
  • Participates in intra- and inter-departmental activities designed for residents.
  • Applies nursing theory and practice, administrative technique, knowledge of current research and teaching principles toward the goal of quality resident care and promotion of health practices.
  • Organizes, administers and supervises the implementation of a written nursing care plan for each resident for whom he/she is responsible.
  • Contributes pertinent data to the clinical nursing record about residents’ nursing care and progress.
  • Directs entry of appropriate information into charts and reviews information after entry into computer.
  • Stimulates independence in thinking and in decision-making.
  • Recognizes the need for consultation and initiates the request to the Nurse Manager.
  • Evaluates the nursing care given by all nursing personnel for whom he/she is responsible.
  • Renders assistance to those engages in nursing research and the development of new patterns of nursing care.
  • Assists in the educational program of any student who is receiving clinical experience under the nurse’s guidance.
  • Follow all safety regulations and precautions.
  • Ensure that their Department is maintained in a clean and safe manner by assuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are maintained.
  • Report all hazardous conditions/equipment to immediate supervisor/manager.
  • Report all accidents/incidents to immediate supervisor/manager within 24hrs.
  • Wear protective clothing and equipment when handling infectious waste and or blood/body fluids or when doing Hazardous work i.e. working with chemicals, electrical or day to day maintenance repairs.
  • Participate in the O’odham Centered Care - Managers/Supervisors will help staff in assisting in participating in Person Centered Care.
  • Assists in the orientation of new personnel.
  • Recognize your role as part of the QAPI efforts of your organization.
  • Attend trainings to build understanding and capacity to undertake QAPI work.
  • Carry out QAPI roles and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Follow established policies and procedures in support of QAPI efforts.
  • Look for and share with leadership ideas for improvement in the organization.
  • Communicate to leadership upon witnessing a positive outcome of a QAPI project or detecting barriers preventing project success.
  • Support QAPI efforts both verbally and non-verbally (i.e., via actions and attitude), including adjusting performance and practice in accordance with QAPI initiatives and findings.
