About The Position

Messino Cancer Centers is seeking a PRN Registered Nurse for their busy office. This role involves providing safe, accurate, and efficient patient care, including patient assessment, lab and vital sign review, medication safety, dose verification, and drug administration. The nurse will follow Job Breakdown Instructions (JBIs), provide triage care, and communicate patient conditions to the multidisciplinary team. The position requires administering chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, and supportive care agents according to Oncology Nurse’s Society (ONS) standards. Accurate disposal of biohazardous waste, patient and caregiver education, and thorough documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) are also key responsibilities. The role includes telephone triage, assisting with medical supplies, completing required trainings, and maintaining patient confidentiality. The nurse may be expected to work at any Company location and work overtime when given sufficient notice. Compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations, and adherence to Company policies and procedures are mandatory.

Requirements

• Nursing Degree
• Unencumbered RN License in state of employment or multi-state license
• Current CPR and BLS certifications
• Valid Driver’s License and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed
• Experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital setting
• Ability to assess patient needs and condition is essential.
• Must have strong critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• Fluency in the English language with excellent oral and written communication skills is required.
• Critical thinking skills including solid problem solving, analysis, decision-making, planning, time management and organizational skills.
• Must be detailed oriented with the ability to exercise independent judgment.
• Developed interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, diplomacy, tact, conflict management, delegation skills, and diversity awareness.
• Ability to work effectively with sensitive and confidential material and sometimes emotionally charged matters.
• Good command of the English language.

Responsibilities

• Safely and accurately administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, supportive care, and non-oncologic agents to patients as ordered by providers.
• Use Oncology Nurse’s Society (ONS) standards and guidelines.
• Accurate and safe disposal of biohazardous waste, per OSHA and NIOSH guidelines.
• Responsible for new and ongoing patient education, continual patient assessment, and support.
• Thorough, accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) of treatment rendered to patients.
• Ensure appropriate charges are captured by following guidelines for appropriate administration of all medications and activities.
• Follow proper patient identification per JBI for all patient encounters.
• Educate patients and caregivers about medications, side effects and planned treatment course.
• Interact with patient and family in a caring, professional manner.
• Telephone triage: Includes prioritizing incoming calls and messages from patients, family members, hospitals, nursing facilities, pharmacies, and physician offices from emergent to non-urgent.
• Respond accordingly in an appropriate time frame.
• Assisting with inventory and re-stocking medical supplies, recommend purchase of new items as needed.
• Place stock in storage areas in a timely manner.
• Complete annual required safety and nursing trainings.
• Attend all mandatory staff meetings as necessary.
• Always maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient and employee information.
• Assist in training new employees related to job duties according to JBIs.
• Work at any Company location to help meet the Company’s business needs on an as-needed basis, within reasonable expectations.
• Work overtime when given sufficient notice.
• Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
• Complies with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient privacy, patient’s rights, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law.
• Adheres to Company and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Plan.
