About The Position

Riverside Smithfield Hospital, opening in early 2026, aims to provide high-quality healthcare to Isle of Wight County residents. Situated on a 27-acre campus, this new 200,000-square-foot, three-story facility features an Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging Services, 38 Medical/Surgical beds, 12 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, and 4 Operating Rooms. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team shaping the future of healthcare in Smithfield by delivering compassionate, patient-centered care in a state-of-the-art environment.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (Required)
  • 1 year of Registered Nurse experience (Required)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) (Required)
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required)

Responsibilities

  • Assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating the total nursing care of assigned patients.
  • Utilizing communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making to create patient care plans considering physiological, psychosocial, and cultural diversity.
  • Supervising and delegating non-professional personnel to ensure optimum patient care.
  • Demonstrating competence in dealing with age-related needs of specific patient populations served in Critical Care/Telemetry units/departments.
  • Working under the direction of leadership and a multi-disciplinary team to provide comprehensive services in accordance with Riverside Health System standards and facility goals.
  • Assessing patient clinical and psychosocial needs applying standards of practice relevant to the specialty or patient population.
  • Partnering with patients and families to develop, implement, and evaluate plans of care, treatments, and procedures.
  • Assessing and incorporating evidence-based standards of practice.
  • Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team in care coordination.
  • Facilitating safe patient transitions to the next care setting.
  • Demonstrating a sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput.
  • Focusing on quality outcomes of patient care when addressing customer needs.
  • Demonstrating understanding of diverse patient care populations and modifying education methods.
  • Coordinating and individualizing patient and discharge-specific education, including family/caregiver involvement.
  • Evaluating patient comprehension and documenting education provided.
  • Accurately completing all required clinical and quality documentation per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Delegating and prioritizing tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care.
  • Recognizing and responding to emergency situations.
  • Evaluating own needs for support and utilizing identified systems to meet those needs.
