About The Position

This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to pre-operative and post-operative patients. The Registered Nurse will be responsible for assessing patient conditions, administering medications and treatments, and ensuring all necessary pre-operative procedures and documentation are completed accurately and efficiently. The position also requires maintaining a safe and clean work environment, adhering to facility policies, and contributing to the orientation of new employees.

Requirements

  • Current Utah state license as a Registered Nurse.
  • CPR, PALS, & ACLS certification, obtained within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Perioperative nursing experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, develops, and implements total nursing care for pre-operative and post-operative patients.
  • Records and reports patient symptoms, reactions, abnormalities, and changes in condition.
  • Administers medications and treatments as ordered by the physician.
  • Cares for and discharges pre-operative patients according to facility policies.
  • Reviews pre-operative patient charts for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensures surgical consent is completed accurately, comparing it to physician orders and the OR schedule.
  • Verifies all applicable pre-operative workup (lab work, chest x-ray, EKG, H&P) is in the chart and reports abnormal findings to the anesthesiologist and/or surgeon prior to surgery.
  • Obtains and labels personal belongings bags and assists patients with proper OR attire.
  • Questions allergies prior to medication administration.
  • Documents medication administration, including dose, time, and method, on the Pre-Operative worksheet.
  • Functions independently in emergency situations.
  • Displays proficiency in nursing skills, especially in emergency situations.
  • Makes logical and quick decisions based on sound judgment.
  • Maintains patient and employee privacy and confidential information.
  • Provides psychological support to patients and/or families.
  • Maintains rapport with physicians and medical departments involved in pre-operative workup.
  • Maintains competence through continuing education and meets CEU requirements for re-licensure.
  • Attends all facility in-services.
  • Assists in the orientation of new employees as directed.
  • Maintains supplies and cleanliness in the work environment.
  • Reports and labels any malfunctioning or broken equipment.
  • Works within established facility and departmental safety guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
