About The Position

The Pre-op/PACU RN will assist in providing high quality care during the pre-op and post-op phase of the patient's visit.

Requirements

• Current unrestricted NYS RN license
• Minimum of 2 yearspreviousPACU or critical care experiencerequired
• Ability to effectively communicate with providers,patientsand peers
• Candidate mustdemonstrateaptitude formaintainingpace of abbreviated patient encounters, keeping flow to reasonabletime framein post-operative care
• Specialized knowledge,skilland abilities in perioperative nursing
• Capable ofdecision making when applicable.

Responsibilities

• Assess, instruct & prepare patients prior to surgery
• Ensure that operative and informed consents are signed and correct
• Take and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedure
• Assess patients’ post-operative condition
• Monitor vital signs and other measurements of progress to ensure patient is meeting discharge criteria
• Document all findings in patient files
• Answer patient questions to ensure patient comfort
• Monitor patients for condition changes, report any changes to physician
• Perform intervention duties during post-operative emergencies
• Gather pertinent medical history and provide concise instruction for pre-operative and post-operative care
• Other responsibilities as needed/assigned.
