The Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) department plays a critical role in preparing patients safely and efficiently for upcoming surgical or procedural care. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive preoperative assessments, reviewing medical histories and current medications, obtaining and documenting vital signs and required diagnostic tests, and identifying potential risks that may impact anesthesia or procedural outcomes. The team collaborates closely with physicians, anesthesia providers, and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure all preoperative requirements are met and communicate any abnormal findings promptly. PAT nurses also provide patient education regarding pre-procedure instructions, medication management, and expectations for the day of surgery, helping to reduce anxiety and promote adherence. By ensuring accurate documentation, regulatory compliance, and timely coordination of care, the PAT nursing team member supports optimal patient safety, workflow efficiency, and successful surgical outcomes. This is a fast-paced environment that requires attention to detail and time management skills. The unit culture is defined by a small team with an extended family environment, emphasizing collaboration and teamwork with both peers and providers. This role is for individuals who are willing to work hard, are self-motivated, and desire to work in a positive atmosphere.
