Registered Nurse (RN) - Post-Surgical Unit
About The Position
Sentara is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for Sentara Norfolk General Hospital's Surgical Unit, in Norfolk Virginia. This is a full-time, night shift position (7p-7a). The unit is a 42-bed unit specializing in the care of Adult Surgical Patients, with Registered Nurses assigned to PODs to assist patients recovering from surgeries including Urology, General Surgery, ENT, Plastic Surgery, GYN Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and Trauma Overflow. The unit also cares for patients with renal disease, diabetes, COPD, and heart failure, and is a telemetry-monitored unit. The average patient stay is 3-4 days. Additionally, the unit has 6 beds for Epilepsy monitoring and is the Living Kidney Donor Transplant Unit.
Requirements
- RN Degree REQUIRED
- Virginia RN License REQUIRED
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required within 90-days of hire
Nice To Haves
- Prior RN experience PREFERRED

- Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
- Utilize the standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
- Apply the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
- Possess clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
