Registered Nurse, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
About The Position
Humber River Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to join their Post Anesthetic Care Unit (PACU) within the Surgical Program. Humber River Health is a multi-site organization serving over 850,000 people in the northwest Greater Toronto Area. It is a member of the Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN) and operates Hennick Humber Hospital, along with its Finch and Church campuses. The organization boasts over 5,000 employees, approximately 800 physicians, and over 600 volunteers. Hennick Humber Hospital is recognized as North America’s first fully digital hospital, utilizing robotics and advanced technology to improve patient outcomes, reduce pain, minimize complications, and shorten hospital stays. Their digital ecosystem includes automated laboratory services, medication management robotics, electronic health records, a Command Centre, computerized physician order entry, bedside computer terminals, and surgical tracking systems. The Registered Nurse in the PACU will function within the full scope of nursing practice, assessing patient care needs, developing care plans, and collaborating with the Resource Nurse and care team to evaluate their effectiveness.
Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- BCLS certification upon hire to show proof of valid current certification (Registered Nurses currently employed by HRH are exempted)
- PACU certification (or to obtain within 6 months of hire date) required
- Current Critical Care Certification or Emergency Department Certification required
- At least 1 year current Critical Care or Emergency nursing experience (including physiological and cardiac monitoring of patients) required
- At least 2 years of current acute surgical experience is required
- Problem solving abilities and critical thinking skills
- Excellent organizational skills and flexibility
- Ability to function as part of a team in a rapidly changing environment
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development and a strong knowledge of policy and practice standards
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent attendance and discipline free record required

Nice To Haves
- Minimum 2 years recent PACU experience preferred
- PALS and ACLS certification preferred
- Experience with arterial and central lines, epidurals and spinal anesthetics, PCA preferred
- Experience working with the paediatric population preferred

Responsibilities
- Provide care of patients in the immediate recovery phase post-operatively.
- Provides advanced pain and airway management based on patients’ individual needs.
- Care of ventilated patients.
- Care of patients recovering from general, local and regional anesthesia.
- Utilization of computerized systems for documentation of patient care.
