About The Position

Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a 20-bed tertiary and quaternary medical/surgical intensive care unit that cares for critically ill neonates through adolescents. The majority of PICU patients arrive through our in-house, nurse-managed Transport Team and Access Center for care that can only be provided at UCSF Medical Center. These patients receive care for a variety of life-threatening medical and surgical conditions. Nurses on this unit learn the skills necessary to maintain vital functions for these fragile children, while supporting their families through difficult times. The PICU Registered Nurse will coordinate patient care in collaboration with physicians, PICU CNS, Respiratory Therapists, Child Life, Social Work, Nutrition and Discharge Case Managers.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse
  • Experience in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
  • Ability to maintain vital functions for fragile children
  • Ability to support families through difficult times
  • Proficiency in the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation)
  • Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary and nursing team
  • Ability to perform nursing care for patients with complex needs
  • Ability to assist with the management of patient care administered by other team members
  • Collaboration skills with physicians, CNS, Respiratory Therapists, Child Life, Social Work, Nutrition, and Discharge Case Managers.
