About The Position

The Ambulatory Surgery Center R. N. is responsible and accountable for the delivery and documentation of patient care during the peri-operative period. This role involves managing patient care in accordance with physician orders, ASC policies, and anesthesia guidelines, ensuring accurate and timely documentation, and assessing patient needs for physical, social, and rehabilitative care, including discharge planning. The nurse will also be responsible for patient and family education, maintaining a safe environment, and coordinating patient discharge. Additionally, the role requires participation in economical utilization of supplies and medication, safe administration of medications and IV solutions, and assisting with emergency measures. The Registered Nurse must maintain effective rapport with physicians, patients, families, and staff, and demonstrate complete knowledge of infection control and universal precautions.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Registered Nurse license for the State of Georgia.
  • Current ACLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver and document patient care during the peri-operative period.
  • Utilize supplies and materials in a cost-effective manner and monitor inventory levels.
  • Provide quality patient care as outlined in the "Peri-Operative Standards of Practice" and department policies.
  • Interpret and monitor compliance of established standards, policies, and procedures for surgical technicians and other unlicensed personnel.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles and provide age-appropriate care.
  • Address and support cultural practices that do not harm others or interfere with medical therapy.
  • Assist in the orientation of new employees.
  • Attend and participate in departmental staff meetings.
  • Maintain current skills by attending relevant educational programs.
  • Maintain a safe environment by adhering to safety principles.
  • Participate in departmental fire and disaster drills.
  • Monitor engineer checks, equipment logs, and quality control monitors.
  • Comply with infection control guidelines.
  • Assist in identifying patient-related potential problem areas for quality review.
  • Monitor established quality review for compliance.
  • Participate in the department performance improvement subcommittee.
  • Admit and prepare outpatients for surgery efficiently and thoroughly.
  • Ensure all chart aspects and required pre-op workload are completed.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  • Consistently demonstrate accurate, concise, and timely documentation.
  • Assess patient's condition and nursing needs, prescribing appropriate nursing actions.
  • Report pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients accurately and concisely.
  • Incorporate and demonstrate knowledge of nursing practice, including legal aspects, nursing process, and quality improvement.
  • Identify patient and family teaching needs and initiate interventions.
  • Develop a complete and accurate patient care plan.
  • Maintain and promote a positive, safe environment for patients and co-workers.
  • Provide leadership and management responsibilities for safe patient care delivery.
  • Participate in economical utilization of supplies and medication.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
  • Administer medications and I.V. solutions safely and effectively.
  • Assist with or initiate emergency measures for sudden adverse developments.
  • Maintain all annual education standards.
  • Coordinate discharge of patients and provide accurate reports upon transfer.
  • Attend departmental meetings and in-service education.
  • Show responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education.
  • Maintain an effective rapport with physicians, patients, family, staff members, and clinic personnel.
  • Demonstrate complete knowledge of infection control and universal precautions.
  • Actively support and promote strict adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Provide proper notification and advance notice for absence or tardiness.
  • Observe the dress code.
  • Adjust personal schedule when requested to complete workload.
  • Be available for additional duties within the scope of training.
  • Perform all duties described on the General Job Description.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
