About The Position

The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing care tailored to the needs of the pediatric patient population, adhering to the Illinois Nurse Practice Act. This role involves managing daily office operations and functioning as a key member of the patient care team. The nurse will coordinate patient care by collaborating with internal Clinic departments, external hospitals, nursing homes, and home care agencies.

Requirements

  • Educated as a registered nurse by attaining an ADN, diploma, or B.S.N.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
  • CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.
  • Practices independent nursing consistent with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
  • Assumes accountability and responsibility for own practice and that which is delegated.
  • Ability to serve on appropriate committees.

  • RN with a Chemotherapy and Biotherapy certificate (for chemotherapy administration exception).

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients to gather nursing history, assess health knowledge and maintenance, and document findings.
  • Obtain medical information, chief complaints, vital signs, and diagnostic test results in preparation for physician examination.
  • Act as a patient advocate, protecting patient rights and addressing service complaints.
  • Evaluate the need for referrals to other agencies or providers such as Home Health or community agencies.
  • Screen patient problems via in-person or phone consultations, providing advice or referral to a physician.
  • Provide planned patient education programs on prevention, health maintenance, specific diseases, or conditions.
  • Provide home care instructions for procedures and medications.
  • Deliver pre and post-operative instructions for specific surgical and/or medical procedures.
  • Administer respiratory therapeutic treatments.
  • Administer irrigations such as foley catheter, enemas, and ear wash.
  • Collect specimens, including cultures, and provide coding.
  • Apply and remove casts, providing patient instruction.
  • Perform procedures such as catheterization and suture removal, and dressing changes following Infection Control Policy.
  • Administer medications by all routes except chemotherapy (unless certified).
  • Assist the physician during examinations and treatments by providing instruments, dressings, and preparing equipment.
  • Orient new personnel to the specialty.
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and families.
  • Serve on the STAT Code Team, potentially directing the team and educating staff.
  • Serve as a resource to nursing personnel throughout the Clinic.
  • May serve as a Health Care Assistant.
  • Coordinate the nursing care of patients by interacting with Clinic departments, hospitals, nursing homes, and pharmacies.
  • Demonstrate professionalism by adhering to performance standards, including dress code.
  • Ensure confidentiality for patients and staff.
  • Maintain knowledge by attending education programs and reading current literature.
  • Perform pre-certifications and referrals for insurance companies.
  • Schedule procedures and surgeries.
  • Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training requirements.
  • Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.
