This position focuses on the care of pediatric patients, recognizing that children have unique healthcare needs that require specialized knowledge and expertise. The Registered Nurse will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, participate in discharge planning, function as a patient advocate, and teach patients/families about illness/injury and overall health promotion and wellness. The role enhances quality of life from the perspective of the patient/family by documenting care provided and responding to incidents in accordance with established policies and procedures. The nurse will consult, confer, and collaborate with other health care providers, maintain and advance clinical competence, and participate on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects, as assigned. Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is part of the provincial implementation of minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs), an initiative aimed at enhancing nursing practice and strengthening quality of care across the health system. mNPRs set the minimum number of nurses providing care to patients on a given unit.
