About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Registered Nurse to work in Pediatrics at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, BC. This role focuses on the specialized care of pediatric patients, recognizing their unique healthcare needs. The nurse will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, participate in discharge planning, act as a patient advocate, and educate patients and families on health promotion and wellness. Responsibilities include documenting care, responding to incidents, consulting with other healthcare providers, maintaining clinical competence, and participating in committees and research projects. The practice adheres to the standards and code of ethics of the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), VCH policies, and a patient and family-centered care model. This role is also framed within VCH’s commitments to Indigenous Cultural Safety, Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Planetary Health.

Requirements

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Post graduate coursework or a certificate in pediatrics including courses in breastfeeding and one (1) year recent related clinical experience working with a pediatric patient population, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in nursing practice related to designated patient group.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement care plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to unexpected events, problem-solve, establish priorities and deal with conflict.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to counsel and teach patients and their families.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership through initiative and problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated skill in clinical techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies.
  • Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Responsibilities
