About The Position

Under general supervision, guided by the policies and procedures of the Medical Center and Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with providers and administrative management, the Ambulatory Pulmonology Nurse autonomously, utilizing the nursing process, to assess, plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate patient care within the ambulatory setting. They will utilize a high level of clinical knowledge to fulfill patient needs, ensure efficient patient care, and provide patient education when necessary. The Pulmonology Nurse will act as a patient advocate and as a liaison between insurance companies, inpatient/outpatient services, patients/families and all other necessary healthcare services to manage and facilitate efficient and timely coordination of care. In addition, the Clinical Nurse II will assist in the development of patient care standards and practices. The Pulmonary Nurse is responsible for coordinating outpatient services and needs for a panel of pediatric Pulmonology patients and providers in the ambulatory setting. Their responsibilities include assisting with insurance authorizations and prior medication authorizations, contacting home health companies, assuring DME and other home supplies are adequate, assisting with medication refill requests, patient teaching and assisting in the overall coordination of timely patient care.
