Under the direction of the Department manager or Team leader this position assesses, plans, organizes and evaluates all aspects of patient care for assigned unit/patients. The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process to provide quality patient care according to established standards of care which includes planning, implementing, evaluating and adjusting plan of care, and discharge planning based on expected patient outcomes. This includes admitting, transferring, and discharging patients, completing ongoing patient assessments and documenting according to policy, and developing patient plans of care. The role also involves reporting symptoms and significant changes in patient’s condition to appropriate personnel, assessing and coordinating patient’s discharge planning needs, and demonstrating appropriate application of age-specific standards in caring for various age groups. Collaboration with physicians and other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team in teaching patients and/or families about their disease process, wellness promotion, and discharge planning is also a key function. The nurse will demonstrate an awareness of research in nursing and evaluate practices for improvement opportunities.
