Under general supervision and in accordance with the policies, procedures and guidelines established within the organization, the unit, and the Michigan Public Health Code, the registered nurse manages the care delivery for patients in the organization throughout the length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge. This involves utilizing the nursing process, coordinating care, delegating tasks, providing direct patient care, and documenting/communicating patient responses and needs. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. The role also includes responsibilities related to interpreting procedure cards, assessing case carts, anticipating physician needs, observing patient condition changes, managing equipment and supplies, and acting as a resource for other staff. For specific departments, additional requirements like triage certifications, advanced life support certifications, fetal monitoring credentials, and swing bed training may apply. A Virtual Registered Nurse (VRN) role leverages technology for remote patient care, including screening, education, discharge planning, and supporting bedside staff.
