Requirements

  • Current state RN license
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school
  • Minimum of 1-year working in clinical setting preferred
  • Completion of basic dysrhythmia course within 6-months of hire
  • Obtain ACLS, PALS within 6-months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification from ANA in sub-specialty ER, Geriatrics, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Engaged in every aspect of teamwork and hospital initiatives to promote patient safety and quality of care.
  • Positive, engaged member of the patient’s care team.
  • Coordinates the Patient Care Team’s delivery of personalized, efficient care with respect for patient’s spiritual and cultural differences in accordance with the PA State Board of Nursing Licensure requirement and ANA Scope and Standards of Practice. Accomplished through collaboration with the RN Charge Nurse.
  • Commits to Mission, Vision and Core Values.
  • Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of patient’s rights and patient responsibilities.
  • RN is trained to work as RN in the ER; Float RN between ER and Med/Surge; RN on Med/Surge taking patient assignment for observation/inpatient or (post-acute) Swing Bed patients.
  • Performs purposeful Bed Side Shift Report, according to best practice guidelines, every shift for safe and accurate handoff.
  • Teach Back with patients using plain language. Used to promote patient safety by confirming understanding by the patient as to what is being instructed or taught.
  • Hourly Rounding performed by RN or confirm that designee has completed hourly rounding with safety checks. Safety Check example: bed alarm activated.
  • Patient Experience: maintain set targets for Communication with Nursing, Responsiveness of Hospital Staff, and Communication about Medications, Discharge Information, and Transition of Care.
  • Maintains proficiency in all aspects of EMR/Bar Code medication administration.
  • RN assigned in the ER cares for patients seeking emergent, medical care in the Critical Access Hospital (CAH) setting.
  • Knowledgeable in the following: EMTALA; basic emergency care under the direction of the ER physician; emergency resuscitation procedures.
  • Training and understanding of Acute Ready Stroke hospital roles and responsibilities.
  • Training and understanding of Chest Pain Accreditation. Trained in early heart attack care.
