About The Position

The Registered Nurse is a professional practitioner who assesses, manages, directs, and provides nursing care activities during the patient's hospital stay and coordinates planning with other disciplines utilizing a patient/customer driven approach.

Requirements

  • Licensed to work as an RN in the state of Missouri
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Missouri Division of Professional Registration or Registered Nurse (RN) Issued by Compact State
  • Ability to relate to coworkers in a professional and appropriate manner
  • Demonstrates ability to change and adapt to changing work demands
  • Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice
  • Performs job in accordance with safety and infection control policies
  • Provides service excellence to the customers of Saint Louis University Hospital
  • Incorporates Performance Improvement and Evidenced Based Practice into individual professional practice
  • Provides age-appropriate care to Adult and Geriatric patients

Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive nursing assessment/reassessment, including age-appropriate admission/transfer assessments, post-op/post-procedure assessments, and assessment of education/discharge needs.
  • Establishes, coordinates, and evaluates a plan of care based on assessment data, patient diagnosis, physician orders, protocols, and standards of care.
  • Provides and documents nursing interventions based on assessed patient needs, plan of care, and changes in patient status, including medication administration, IV fluid monitoring, referrals, and patient/family education.
  • Documents and communicates nursing care and changes in patient condition, including ongoing evaluation of care effectiveness and patient/family education.
  • Provides specialized care to patients at high risk for injury, including restraint care, pain management, and abuse assessment.
  • Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice by adhering to quality standards, policies, and procedures, and maintaining currency in hospital/unit information.
  • Relates to coworkers in a professional and appropriate manner, participating in team collaboration, orienting new employees, and functioning as a resource person.
  • Performs job in accordance with safety and infection control policies, including standard precautions, maintaining a safe environment, and reporting risk management concerns.
  • Provides service excellence to customers by delivering timely, high-quality care in a courteous and respectful manner, communicating effectively, and demonstrating competence and collaboration.
  • Incorporates Performance Improvement and Evidenced Based Practice into individual professional practice, assisting in developing unit goals, remaining current with evidence-based practice, and participating in performance improvement processes.
  • Provides age-appropriate care to adults and geriatrics, demonstrating knowledge and skills necessary for the age of the patient served.
  • Provides cost-effective services by using resources efficiently, recommending changes in practice to increase efficiency, and documenting chargeable supplies.
