The Registered Nurse in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) utilizes the nursing process and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members in caring for patients. This role involves administering prescribed medications and treatments, documenting care according to standards, and performing assessments, planning, intervention, and evaluation. The nurse develops and executes patient care plans, including patient and family instruction, and participates in performance improvement activities and shared governance. They also provide clinical expertise to other units and departments to support the patient's longitudinal plan of care, utilizing critical thinking for patient safety and experience, and escalating concerns as needed. Participation in the professional nursing continuum process, unit practice activities, and peer review is also expected.
