About The Position

This is a full-time (80 hours biweekly) Registered Nurse position in an Outpatient Procedural Oncology unit. The nurse will utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive patient care. Primary responsibilities include direct patient care, patient/family teaching, symptom management, counseling, and providing a supportive role to patients and their families. Specific skills may vary based on the assigned unit, and unit-based skill lists outline expectations beyond general RN requirements. Current BLS certification is required for all nursing practice areas, and other certifications like ACLS, PALS, or NRP may be required depending on the unit. The role also involves demonstrating knowledge of growth and development across the patient lifespan, assessing and interpreting age-specific data, and providing age-specific treatment. A strong commitment to patient, visitor, and staff safety is expected, including complying with safety regulations, reporting errors and hazardous conditions, and participating in safety education. Maintaining established policies, procedures, and quality standards is essential. The nurse is expected to foster teamwork, practice fiscal responsibility, ensure adequate supplies and equipment, and utilize computer applications for data entry and retrieval.

Responsibilities

Provides general nursing care and personal care assistance to patients.
Writes initial nursing histories, assesses patients' conditions and develops individual care plans for patients.
Carries out physician orders such as administering prescribed medications or treatments, preparing an operating room, order lab tests, x-rays, etc.
Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning.
Monitors and restocks supplies.
Assists provider during examinations, non-operative and operative procedures.
Maintains aseptic techniques; actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
Assists in patient care related activities such as changes dressings, cleans wounds, monitors vital signs, starting IV solutions and inserting tubes.
Provides health care instruction/education to patient and family members.
Performs a variety of nursing administrative duties.
Prepares and maintains records of patient charges.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population.
Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment.
Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
