About The Position

As a Registered Nurse - IV, your nursing experience and leadership abilities allow you to develop and implement quality care plans for patients, while acting as a mentor to others on the unit. The Hematology/Medical Oncology Unit/Infusion Center provides services required for the care of cancer and blood disorders to adults and geriatric inpatients and outpatients. Services include: chemotherapeutics, laboratory studies, bone marrow aspirations and biopsies, infusion, transfusions and consultations. Hospital responsibilities include the medical direction of the Cancer Center. Other ancillary services include navigation, social work, spiritual care and home care service connections.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
  • Registered Nurse License in State of New York.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience as a registered nurse.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates in Human Services or equivalent combination of education and work experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology or Human Services preferred.
  • 1-3 years of healthcare experience in related field preferred.
  • Strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform initial and ongoing assessment of the patient; demonstrate exceptional clinical judgment and advanced assessment skills; communicate and document assessment with interdisciplinary team; utilize all available resources in order to meet the needs of the patient and family.
  • Develop and document plan of care, treatment and services; collaborate interdisciplinary health team to deliver care; maintains an appropriate nurse-patient relationship and provides an exceptional experience for the patient and family.
  • Evaluate, communicate and document patient responses to care; revise plan of care based on ongoing evaluations; ensure the patient receives and understands education/training specific to their needs and abilities.
  • Provide training for new team members on the unit; assume role of teacher for nursing students and other students shadowing on the unit; act as a resource for other team members for both clinical and non-clinical matters.
