About The Position

AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking a qualified Registered Nurse – Otolaryngology to provide specialized outpatient nursing care within the Gastroenterology Clinic at Mike O’Callaghan Military Medical Center (MOMMC). This role involves ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures, providing direct patient care, and coordinating care through a continuum to achieve optimal outcomes. The nurse will perform a variety of duties including patient assessment, procedural assistance, sedation management, and care coordination within ethical and legal boundaries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Graduate from a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a clinical nurse in the medical/surgical, critical care inpatient, or emergency department settings and have been employed in one of those work settings within the past 36 months.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience providing moderate sedation with recovery.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in any U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • Knowledge of professional care theories, principles, practices, disease process and procedures to perform nursing assignments of moderate difficulty and experience to acutely ill adults and geriatric patients as appropriate.
  • Knowledge of the nursing process as a basis for professional practice.
  • Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations.
  • Knowledge of administrative requirements for proper documentation of patients condition including disease progress, acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of medical disorders and conditions as appropriate, as seen in critically ill patients.
  • Knowledge of preventative health schedules, procedures, processes, and education methods.
  • Must comply with all DHA and Medical Employee Health Program (MEHP) immunization and health screening requirements, including annual influenza vaccination and tuberculosis screening.
  • Must be able to pass all required background investigations, credentialing, and installation access requirements for work on Nellis Air Force Base.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility.
  • Perform duties in accordance with the PWS, DHA standards, and MTF policies.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for adult and geriatric patients.
  • Coordinate patient care through a continuum and facilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to care, quality and cost effectiveness.
  • Conduct pre-procedural counseling and education for patients and families.
  • Prepare patients upon arrival, obtaining and documenting detailed medical histories and physical assessments.
  • Assist providers during a wide range of GI procedures, including Upper Endoscopy (EGD), Colonoscopy, ERCP, esophageal pH testing, paracentesis, liver biopsy, and PEG placement.
  • Assist with urgent and emergent procedures such as endoscopy for GI bleeding control, foreign body removal, and cholangitis.
  • Provide scheduled on-call coverage during regular and after-business hours (including overnights, weekends, and holidays) to support urgent and emergent needs.
  • Administer and monitor intravenous (IV) moderate/conscious sedation during procedures.
  • Manage full patient recovery in the procedure room or designated recovery areas.
  • Perform IV cannulation and therapy (including antibiotics and blood products), oxygen administration, vital signs monitoring, specimen collection, pill camera endoscopy, and manometry.
  • Set up, operate, and monitor specialized medical and endoscopy equipment, IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, and EKG units.
  • Collaborate proactively with the GI team to assess discharge planning needs, ensuring optimal patient outcomes, safety, and timely discharge.
