About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Ortho/Ortho Trauma unit, working night shifts. Located in Nashville, Tennessee, VUMC is a leading institution in patient care, education, and research. This role involves applying the nursing process to plan and implement patient care, including education and continuum of care planning. The nurse will collaborate with the healthcare team, establish patient goals, and evaluate progress. The position is on a 29-bed unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6, caring for patients with joint replacements, fractures, general trauma, ortho trauma, emergency general surgery, and dislocations. The unit is fast-paced and dynamic, offering opportunities for continuous learning. VUMC is the only nationally verified Level 1 trauma center in Middle Tennessee and is a Magnet-designated organization, ranked as the #1 hospital in Nashville and Tennessee by U.S. News and World Report 2024-2025.

Requirements

At least 1 year of RN experience
Nursing degree
State or Compact License (TN license within 60 days of getting TN address even if compact license)

Responsibilities

Applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning.
Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team.
Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes.
Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to the Board of Nursing standards.
Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.
