The Registered Nurse - OR Circulator directs and/or provides professional perioperative nursing care for an assigned group of patients across the age continuum, utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role involves providing supervision and guidance to other operating room staff and, in the absence of the Director of the Operating Room, may make decisions affecting the surgical suite's operation. The circulator serves as a professional and technical subject matter expert for at least two surgical services and is expected to float to other patient care areas (Pre-op, PACU) and the Central Sterile Department to enhance organizational efficiency. Shifts are assigned by the Department Head, with weekday, weekend, and holiday call assigned on a rotating basis. The role may require working past assigned shifts due to patient care needs and may include additional duties within the scope of practice, such as central sterile duties. The position is classified as Job Classification I under OSHA, involving direct contact with blood or other body fluids, requiring the use of provided personal protective equipment.
