About The Position

Hartford Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR). This role offers the opportunity to practice at the top of your license using research, innovation, and evidence-based practices within the award-winning Heart & Vascular Institute, a national leader in cardiac care. The CVOR provides specialized care for patients undergoing cardiac or vascular surgery, including procedures like coronary artery bypass surgery, valve replacements, heart transplants, and various vascular surgeries. Nurses in the CVOR are vital members of a dynamic interdisciplinary team, collaborating closely with surgeons, advanced practice providers, surgical technologists, perfusionists, anesthesia providers, and support staff. This is an expanding, fast-paced, high-volume, high-acuity specialty area where you can expand your skills.

Requirements

  • Current active CT RN License
  • Previous OR experience required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Independent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • BSN Preferred
  • CNOR certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Primary role as a circulating nurse in one of seven cardiac or vascular operating rooms.
  • On-call obligation required for covering weeknights and both weekend days and nights after the orientation process.
  • Works as a team member in the operating room alongside the rest of the surgical team to provide patient-centered care to high acuity patients.
  • Ensures the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment and supplies in the operating room for each operation.
  • Assists with cleaning operating room after the operation, ensuring proper routing of equipment and used material.
  • Organizing and administering individualized, professional patient care to patients within the Operating Room.
  • Providing nursing care in accordance with the objectives, policies, procedures and protocols of the hospital and AORN, ASPAN and SGNA standards.
  • Participating in patient teaching; incorporating the needs and behavior of the patient’s specific age/cultural groups in planning and providing care.
  • Participating in quality improvement activities.
