About The Position

This position collaborates with physicians to develop and implement a plan of care aimed at returning the patient to optimal health. The Registered Nurse provides direct bedside nursing care, executes medical orders, and oversees the functions of various support staff including Nurse Assistants, Patient Care Associates, OB Care Associates, Surgical Service Assistants, Nursing Clerks, and Psychiatric Technicians. The role involves evaluating the effectiveness of the patient care plan and assumes a leadership role in integrating evidence-based practice, delegating and coordinating nursing care tasks, and facilitating patient conferences. Additionally, the nurse identifies and addresses patient teaching needs for ongoing care and discharge/transfer, and is responsible for professional growth through continuous education. This role also involves teaching and mentoring other healthcare professionals, including new employees and students, and functioning as a team leader to ensure appropriate patient placement and assignment delegation.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and holding a current license to practice in the state of Michigan.
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross Certification.
  • ACLS within one year of hire/transfer.
  • Must complete AORN perioperative 101 modules within 1 year of hire/transfer.
  • Six (6) months of Operating Room experience (If no candidate has the required 6 months of OR experience, the other internal candidates will be considered.)

Responsibilities

  • Integrates evidence-based knowledge into practice.
  • Delegates and coordinates tasks and assignments of nursing care.
  • Facilitates/participates in patient conferences.
  • Identifies and provides the means to meet patients’ ongoing and discharge/transfer teaching needs by communicating with the appropriate resource persons and attending discharge/transfer planning conferences.
  • Assumes the responsibility for professional growth by seeking out educational opportunities and utilizing programs in the hospital or elsewhere in the community.
  • Teaches and/or guides professional and ancillary personnel.
  • Precepts/mentors new employees and students.
  • Functions as a team leader to ensure proper patient placement and delegation of assignments.
  • Must be able to function as OR RN circulator leading the surgical care team in a variety of specialty services lines.
  • Able to safety assess, administer and monitor patients receiving moderate sedation including ASA classifications.
  • Must be able to interpret cardiac rhythm strips requiring interventions.
  • Maintains aseptic practice and initiates actions necessary to ensure aseptic technique for all surgical situations.
  • Ensures safe and appropriate surgical preps and positioning of patients throughout procedure.
