Registered Nurse Operating Room
About The Position
The Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN), also known as a perioperative nurse, provides comprehensive nursing care to patients before, during, and after surgery. The nurse works in the operating room with surgeons and other surgical team members to support patient safety and well-being. Duties include preparing patients for surgery by reviewing medical history, conducting assessments, educating patients and families about procedures, and administering preoperative medications. This is a full-time position at Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, Georgia, with day shifts of 8 or 10 hours. The role includes a $5.00 specialty rate for the operating room.
Requirements
- Current and valid state RN license.
- Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current certification.
- Current ACLS (AHA) certificate within 30 days of hire and maintain current certification.
- Current PALS (AHA) certificate within 30 days of hire and maintain current certification.
- Minimum of one year of previous perioperative experience or on-the-job training.
Nice To Haves
- Certified Nurse OR (CNOR) certification (AORN) preferred.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating room, ensure the environment is clean, and confirm required equipment is functioning properly.
- Prepare patients for surgery, including verifying patient identity and surgical site, helping position patients on the operating table, and confirming required preoperative procedures are complete.
- Document pertinent information before, during, and after surgery, including vital signs, medications administered, and other relevant details for the medical record.
- Maintain a safe and sterile operating room by following infection-control protocols and ensuring team members follow proper procedures for handling instruments and equipment.
