About The Position

As a member of the interprofessional Team, the REGISTERED NURSE practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, the UHN Professional Practice Model and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN to provide compassionate, collaborative and competent care, while meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession. The Operating Room at TWH has 17 OR Suites and 2 Block Rooms for Regional Anesthesia. The OR has the unique ability to provide technologically advanced investigations and treatment in image guided brain and spinal surgery. Many opportunities for additional education throughout the year including the Krembil Nursing Awards. The majority of patients require the following types of practice: Neurosurgery, Spine Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Hand and Plastic Surgery, General Surgery, Urology Surgery, Ophthalmology Surgery, Robotics.

Requirements

  • Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification required.
  • Flexible and able to work effectively and efficiently within a interdisciplinary patient care team.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and decision making skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • BScN degree or equivalent.
  • Completion of recognized certificated operating room nursing course.
  • Member of Perioperative Nurse Association

Responsibilities

  • Applying knowledge of nursing science, theory, skill and critical decision making in the provision of compassionate, collaborative and competent care in accordance with the UHN Professional Practice Model for Nursing and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN.
  • Ensuring practice is consistent with professional standards and the ethical framework as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the UHN policy and procedure.
  • Demonstrating commitment to professional life long learning by participating in continuing education activities to meet the needs of the patient population served and the standards of the profession.
  • Performing reflective practice, analyzing and evaluating nursing knowledge and modifying practice accordingly to improve the quality of nursing and patient care.
  • Performing cross-functional and other responsibilities, as assigned and/or requested.
  • The majority of our patients require the following: neurosurgery, spinal surgery, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, hand and plastic surgery, urological surgery and ophthalmic surgery.
