The Registered Nurse - Operating Room Pre Admission Testing role utilizes the nursing process and critical thinking in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members to care for patients. This role involves performing assessments, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care. The nurse administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques, policies, procedures, standards of care, and state laws/practice acts. Accurate and comprehensive documentation is essential, adhering to established standards. The nurse develops, initiates, and executes patient care plans based on individual needs, physician prescriptions, and hospital policy. They utilize available resources to teach and support patient and family education, ensuring information is conveyed at an appropriate level of understanding. Participation in department or unit performance improvement activities, including shared governance, is expected. The role involves using clinical expertise to guide other units/departments in supporting the patient's longitudinal plan of care, resolving systems breakdowns, and engaging others in finding solutions. Critical thinking is applied to patient safety and experience, managing complex situations, and delegating appropriately. Escalation to the appropriate chain of command is necessary. The nurse positively influences professional and organizational environments and shared governance. They engage in personal development and support system-entity opportunities for continuous learning and growth, including developing or revising evidence-based practice guidelines. Support and participation in peer review and peer feedback opportunities are also part of the role, as is engagement in the professional nursing continuum.
