About The Position

The Registered Nurse Operating Room OR Circulator (RN) is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process in the preoperative, interoperative, and postoperative phases of surgical patients. The RN will circulate in the operating room for outpatient ophthalmology, ENT, pain management, podiatry, and orthopedic cases. The ability to scrub for surgeries is a plus.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Registered Nurse License
  • Current American Heart Assn. BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications
  • One year in the OR as circulating RN

Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient care through the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, and patient outcome) in the preoperative, interoperative, and postoperative phases of the surgical patient.
  • Circulate in the operating room for outpatient ophthalmology, ENT, pain management, podiatry & orthopedic cases.
  • Assess physiological and psychosocial health status of patients.
  • Assess pain per policy.
  • Complete patient history.
  • Verbally report pertinent information to appropriate staff for continuity of care.
  • Legibly document information in patient records and sign using appropriate professional title.
  • Assess level of understanding and expectations of care.
  • Identify desired patient outcomes.
  • Establish nursing diagnosis.
  • Establish patient/family goals that are mutually acceptable.
  • Formulate a Plan of Care for the patient.
  • Implement nursing care plans tailored to patient/family needs.
  • Assess and problem-solve.
  • Respond to emergencies.
  • Practice within legal and ethical guidelines (Nurse Practice Act, legal statutes, ANA code for Nurses, PRMC Policy and Procedures).
  • Perform nursing actions demonstrating accountability (flexibility, safe judgment).
  • Continually adjust care plan based on patient/family data.
  • Demonstrate proper preoperative process – communication/report.
  • Demonstrate proper procedure and documentation for surgical case counting.
  • Demonstrate proper aseptic technique.
  • Demonstrate efficient turnover time.
  • Demonstrate proper technique for obtaining blood products.
  • Demonstrate proper patient identification verification per policy.
  • Demonstrate proper surgical site identification and marking per policy.
  • Anticipate surgeon’s needs during surgical procedure.
