About The Position

The Registered Nurse Operating Room Circulator is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, and patient outcome) in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of the surgical patient. This role requires adherence to recognized nursing standards, department policies, the Patient Bill of Rights, JCAHO regulations, Standards for Nursing Care, and the Nurse Practice Act. The nurse will assess patients' physiological and psychosocial health status, including pain assessment, and complete patient histories. They will verbally report pertinent information for continuity of care, document information legibly in patient records, and assess patient/family understanding of care. The role involves identifying desired patient outcomes, establishing nursing diagnoses and mutually acceptable patient/family goals, and formulating and implementing nursing care plans tailored to patient/family needs. The nurse must demonstrate the ability to assess and problem-solve, respond to emergencies, and practice within legal and ethical guidelines. Specific duties include demonstrating proper preoperative process, surgical case counting, aseptic technique, efficient turnover time, obtaining blood products, patient identification verification, surgical site identification and marking, and anticipating surgeon's needs. Participation in a Professional Nursing Organization is also expected.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Registered Nurse License
  • Current American Heart Assn. BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Operating Room experience required

Responsibilities
