About The Position

The Registered Nurse Operating Room Circulator is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, and patient outcome) during the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of the surgical patient's care. This role requires adherence to recognized nursing standards, department policies, the Patient Bill of Rights, JCAHO regulations, Standards for Nursing Care, and the Nurse Practice Act. The nurse will assess patients' physiological and psychosocial health status, including pain assessment, and complete patient histories. Effective communication and documentation are crucial for continuity of care. The role involves identifying desired patient outcomes, establishing nursing diagnoses and mutually acceptable goals with patients/families, and formulating and implementing tailored care plans. The nurse must demonstrate the ability to assess and problem-solve, respond to emergencies, and practice within legal and ethical guidelines. Specific responsibilities include proper preoperative process and communication, surgical case counting and documentation, aseptic technique, efficient turnover time, obtaining blood products, patient identification verification, surgical site identification and marking, and anticipating surgeon's needs. Participation in a Professional Nursing Organization is also encouraged.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Registered Nurse License
  • Current American Heart Assn. BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Operating Room experience required

Responsibilities
