About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) will work in the Med Surg Oncology Department at Texas Health Fort Worth. This is a PRN II position requiring at least three shifts per six-week schedule, with occasional weekend and holiday requirements. The department offers self-scheduling for work/life balance and opportunities for educational and career growth. It features a robust Unit Based Council (UBC) and an engaged leadership team. This is a fast-paced, high-volume Oncology Department with 35 beds, admitting patients with various diseases including Leukemia, Sepsis, Lymphoma, Melanoma, Breast, and Kidney/Pancreatic Cancers, as well as pain management and med/surg overflow. It is a mixed acuity unit where nurses can build skills caring for higher acuity PCU patients with a lower patient ratio.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from an accredited Nursing program or Nursing Diploma required
  • One-year experience as a RN required.
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
  • Current BLS (required) –prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly.
  • CPI training within 90 days of hire (required)
  • Successful completion of the ONS - Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certificate within 6 months of hire required

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • 2+ years of inpatient oncology RN experience and charge/preceptor skills (preferred)
  • OCN - Oncology Certified Nurse within 2 years of hire preferred

Responsibilities

  • Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process
  • Assesses the patient
  • Plans the care of the patient
  • Intervenes as appropriate
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions
  • Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
  • Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information
  • Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
